About Doctor

Dr. Gulamhusein

Member of ACS, ASMBS, SAGES, TABS, and TMA.

Info:

Dr. Gulamhusein is a fellowship trained general and bariatric surgeon. He was born and raised in Houston and went to the University of Texas at Austin for his bachelor’s degree. Thereafter, he was accepted to UT Southwestern for medical school, so this brought him to the Dallas Fort-Worth Metroplex. It was during these four years that he fell in love with DFW.

During his fourth year of medical school, he did a sub-internship in Houston at the MD Anderson Cancer Center where he was inspired to pursue training in General Surgery.

He was mentored by Dr. Aurora Pryor, the former President of SAGES, during his general surgery training at the Stony Brook University in Long Island. During this time, he co-authored many scientific publications in the field of minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, and he also wrote a book chapter for the SAGES Manual of Foregut Surgery on hiatal hernia repairs. He was inspired to pursue a specialization in bariatric surgery because of his great mentors.

He went on to complete his fellowship training at the prestigious bariatric surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio where he did over 100 bariatric operations in a single year. At the Cleveland Clinic he gained exposure to the most complex bariatric cases, and he considers himself fortunate to have trained under the world’s most renowned bariatric surgeons: Dr. Philip Schauer, Dr. Stacy Brethauer, and Dr. Ali Aminian.

Dr. Gulamhusein is passionate in the surgical treatment of morbid obesity, and he is excited to return to Dallas and join Dr. Alibhai at Nova Bariatrics & Minimally Invasive Surgery. He was drawn to the practice for its warm and family-oriented environment. Believe it or not, he’s known Dr. Alibhai for over 20 years. Dr. Alibhai was the chief resident when Dr. Gulamhusein was on his surgical rotations during medical school!

In his free time, he enjoys rooting for his Texas Longhorns, working out, and spending time with his wife and one-year old daughter.
