Facelift
What is a Facelift
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery that helps reduce signs of aging in the face and neck. It lifts and tightens facial tissues, strengthens muscles, and removes extra skin for a firmer, smoother look. Unlike fillers or injectables, a facelift provides long-lasting results because it addresses deeper layers of the skin. This procedure helps with:
- Sagging skin on the face and neck
- Jowls along the jawline
- Deep wrinkles around the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds)
- Loose skin or fat under the chin (double chin)
Who Can Consider a Facelift
You may be a good candidate for a facelift if you have:
- Good skin elasticity for better results
- Noticeable sagging in your face or neck
- Good overall health and realistic expectations
- Deep wrinkles or folds that non-surgical treatments can’t fix
During your consultation at our practice, Dr. Mustafa H. Alibhai will assess your facial structure, skin condition, and goals to see if a facelift is the right choice for you.

Next, our doctor carefully places incisions in discrete areas, such as around the hairline at the temples, in front of and behind the ears, and sometimes under the chin for a neck lift. These placements help lift the skin while keeping scars as hidden as possible.
Once the incisions are made, the skin is gently separated from the underlying muscles and connective tissue. Facial tissues are then lifted and tightened to create a firmer foundation, and excess fat may be removed or repositioned for a more balanced look.
After adjusting the underlying tissue, any extra skin is removed, and the remaining skin is smoothly draped over the repositioned structures to create a youthful and natural appearance. Finally, the incisions are closed with sutures or surgical adhesives for proper healing and minimal scarring.
What to Expect During Recovery
Facelift Surgery Benefits
Unlike temporary treatments like fillers or Botox®, facelifts offer long-lasting results because they tighten deeper facial tissues. The surgery can also address multiple concerns, such as a double chin, jowls, and marionette lines, though it may not fully correct nasolabial folds. For a complete facial transformation, a facelift can be combined with other procedures like eyelid or brow lifts.
