Mastopexy (Breast Lift)
What is Breast Augmentation
A breast lift, or Mastopexy, is a surgery that lifts and reshapes the breasts as it removes extra skin and tightens the tissue. This makes the breasts firmer and more youthful. Unlike breast augmentation, a lift improves the shape without using implants. Women choose a breast lift for:
- Lifting sagging breasts caused by aging or gravity
- Restoring shape after pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Improving symmetry and repositioning the nipples for a natural look
- Increasing confidence and enhancing body image
Ideal Candidate for a Breast Lift Procedure
You may be a good candidate for a breast lift if you have:
- Uneven breast size or shape
- Sagging breasts with stretched skin
- Loss of firmness due to weight changes or hormones
- Nipples that point downward or sit below the breast crease
During your consultation, Dr. Mustafa H. Alibhai will evaluate your breast shape, skin elasticity, and personal goals to see if a breast lift is the best option for you.
Mastopexy at Nova Bariatrics & General Surgery
We use advanced techniques customized for each patient to ensure the best results with minimal pain and recovery time. Here’s what happens during a breast lift:
- Anesthesia
To keep you comfortable during the procedure, we use either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The choice depends on your medical history and personal preference. - Incision Patterns
Dr. Alibhai will select the best incision type based on your breast size and shape and how much lifting is needed. A small lift may require an incision around the areola, while a moderate lift involves an additional vertical incision down to the breast crease. For more extensive lifting, an incision may also be made along the breast crease. - Reshaping Your Breasts
Once the incisions are made, the breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to create a firmer, more youthful look. The nipples and areolas are repositioned for better symmetry, and if the areolas are too large, they can be reduced. Any excess skin is removed to improve skin tightness and smoothness. - Closing the Incisions
After reshaping is complete, the incisions are carefully closed using sutures, surgical tape, or adhesives. Some scarring may be visible at first, but with proper care, these scars will fade significantly over time. - Immediate Results
You will notice a difference in your breasts right after surgery. While some swelling is expected, it will gradually decrease as you recover, revealing your final results.
Post-Mastopexy Care & Recovery
Our team will give you clear instructions on how to care for your incisions, take medications to prevent infection, and watch for any signs of complications. Most patients can return to light activities within a week, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for four to six weeks until full recovery.
